How We Raise Money
Like most PAs, the majority of our funds are raised through events that we run. Events are normally mapped out at the start of each academic year. Most of the events are permanent fixtures on the PA calendar (see below). We are always looking for new ideas from both parents and children and of course, volunteers to run them! There are other events but our main events are listed below to give you a feel for what we do! The events are run by parents and we are always looking for help (whether individuals or teams of parent helpers) however great or small your contribution – it all helps!

Christmas and Summer Fair
This permanent event involves the most planning and organisation for the PA. We are always looking for new parent involvement and enthusiasm. Each fair we involve the whole school community – parents, teachers, staff, and governors and of course the children! The Christmas Fair is usually held on the first Saturday in December and the Summer Fair the last Saturday in June

The dates of the events are advertised well in advance, through posters, the PA website and the PA Newsletter which outline the activities and also how parents and children can help or contribute. A lot of the fundraising for the stalls is done through a number of Mufti days. The children get to wear their own clothes to school in return for bringing a donation in for a specific stall. So we have a gift/chocolate mufti day, a bottle mufti day etc.   We also take donations of books, toys, dvd’s and gifts which can you used on stalls too.

We also offer parents and local companies the opportunity to advertise in our professionally printed programmes.   Over the last few years we have also been sponsored by a local estate agents who advertise the fairs.

Kids Disco, Puppet and Magic Shows
We have held disco’s, puppet and magic shows and like to vary children’s entertainment each year.  At the discos the children get a chance to have a good boogie and at all events parents are welcome to stay and join in the fun.

Quiz Night
The quiz night is an opportunity to test the grey matter – and often against a team made up of the teaching staff!  In past years it has been held in Emmanuel Church hall with an optional fish and chip supper and a “bring your own bottle”.  We have also held quiz nights at a local bar…….both are very successful and great fun.

Theatre Tickets
We are able to purchase theatre tickets from a local theatre at a discounted rate which is great for pantomimes or if you’re organising a social event  In addition the PA retains some of the profit from these sales.

Golf Day
The golf day is open to all PA golfers, their family, friends or colleagues. It is an opportunity to meet up and compete in a friendly manner with a spot of breakfast or lunch thrown into the bargain!

Cake / Doughnut Sales
Each Year Group cake sale is organised by class reps and stocked by parents.  It is held on a Friday afternoon at pick-up during the spring and summer terms after school. The cake stall rota is also displayed on the PA Notice-board. Parents and children eagerly queue to buy the cakes on the Friday and have made the cake stall a continued success!

Food / Lolly Sales
We also speciality food days and during the hot summer months sell ice refreshing ice lollies after school.

Throughout the year we like to vary events and welcome new ideas and suggestions. All new parents are welcome to create or join an event team where more experienced parents will be there to lend a hand should you need any help..

Hanging Baskets Offer
Every Spring we offer parents, teachers and staff the opportunity to purchase garden centre quality hanging baskets from a family run plant nursery at a discounted price.  The baskets are delivered directed to school in May and make a lovely addition to your garden.  In addition the PA retains some of the profit from these sales too.

Ink Cartridge/Cable Recycling
We collect and raise money from any unwanted ink cartridges or power cables/leads so please drop them into the green wheelie bin located in the entrance lobby to the school reception.

“Rag Bag”
We have “Rag Bag Bank” textiles collection/recycling scheme which is located near the rag bagpedestrian entrance and is ready for your donations so get sorting! Please only leave your textiles if there is space in the Rag Bank and do not leave them near it as they will get wet and damaged and will not be collected. The textile bank is available all year, so you will be able to bring your donations at a time that suits.   Items that can be placed in the textiles bank are:

  • Household textiles to include towels, bed linen, curtains etc.
  • Handbags, bags, ties & belts
  • Soft Toys
  • Paired shoes (tied together)
  • Underwear to include socks, tights, pants and bras etc.
  • All men’s, ladies and children’s clothing
  • Blankets
  • Duvets and pillows are NOT required

Other Fundraising – Charity Matched Giving
The Charities act 1993 requires organisations such as ours, with an annual income in excess of £1,000, to register with the Charity Commission. Being a registered charity provides a number of benefits including the ability to raise money through Charity Matched Giving schemes. This is a very simple practice where Companies or businesses pledge to donate to a charity such as ourselves an amount of money relating to the amount that an employee(s) donates or fundraises for us. There are several benefits to both us and the company involved:

  • Employees’ morale is boosted by having their efforts supported by their employer;
  • The company benefits from having charitable donations written off against taxable profits;
  • The company can endeavour to get publicity for their giving; and
  • Our PA benefits from receiving perhaps double what we have raised at an event.

If you think that your employer has a matched giving scheme already in operation, or if you would like some more information about charity matched giving or setting up a scheme in your workplace, please talk to the PA chair or treasurer.

Easyfundraising + Easysearch – Raise Money by Shopping!!!
Yes, its really that easy……Easyfundraising is the easiest way to help raise money for GASPA! If you already shop online with retailers such as Amazon, Argos, John Lewis, Comet, EBAY, Directline, Thomas Cook, Thomson, Dell, John Lewis, Boden, Churchill Insurance, Marks and Spencer, Yellow Moon,,, HMV, then sign up  for free to raise money for GASPA while you shop!

Simply visit Easy Fundraising to sign-up and then use the links to the various stores/retailers on the site.  The retailer then donates a  % of the sale to GASPA.

We’ve raised over £1700.00 with easyfundraising so far but we need your help to keep donations coming in.  It’s free money and very easy to use.  We have some registered easyfundraising users at the moment but just think how much we could raise if all parents registered to the website.   So don’t delay – register today!

Easysearch – Please also use the easysearch search engine. Searches are free and each search raises half a penny for the PA!  Make just 10 searches a day with easysearch instead of Google or any other search engine and you could raise around £20 a year – or more – for us. It’s that easy and you don’t have to spend any money at all!
